There are so many things that even the smartest people in the world don’t understand, and they have the benefit of the accumulated knowledge of the millions who came before them!
More than that, even the smartest people on earth did not make themselves that smart on their own – they were born with strong minds and the ability to learn and reason. That is a gift from God – just like the greatest athletes were born with healthy bodies that allowed them to work hard and become great. They had no choice when they were born, they were just blessed with healthy bodies and an aptitude for certain activities.
If you really think about it, I think most of us cannot take full credit for who we are or what we accomplish. Were you born with a good mind, healthy body, or an especially attractive face? These are all blessings from God!
Those who try claim responsibility for their accomplishments are overestimating themselves, in my opinion. Of course, many people work extremely hard to achieve great things, but would they be able to achieve those without God giving them their very breath, or their able minds or healthy bodies? Would the world’s strongest man have become so had he been born without working arms and legs? Would the smartest man alive have become so had he not been graced with a strong mind?
We humans love to talk about our accomplishments as if we were fully responsible, but when it all is said and done, only One can really be credited for our achievements.
Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God who does all things. (Ecclesiastes 11:5)
He does ALL THINGS. He gave humans their minds and bodies. He gave humans the materials we use to create things. He gave humans the ability to think, wonder, decipher, strive, and invent. I cannot understand all the things of God – and I thank Him for His unsearchable ways!
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! (Romans 11:33)
