If they know Christ, certainly there will be a period of mourning for your loss, this is completely normal and understandable. However, the knowledge that they are so much better off resting in the arms of Christ is immeasurably better than losing someone knowing they are truly lost forever.
On our worst day, we need to remember who we are as Christ-followers:
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength. (Isaiah 40:29-31)
The Apostle Paul knew a thing or two about bad days. What did he have to say on this topic?
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18)
Even on our worst day, there is hope. This world is a place for us to show our hope to others, not to wallow in misery. We can’t shine our light if we let this present darkness overcome us – don’t lose your God-given joy!
