There is a lot of conjecture at why Jesus wept at the death of Lazarus even though He knew that shortly Lazarus would walk out of the tomb.
Perhaps it was not Lazarus that Jesus was weeping for, but instead mourning with Martha and Mary. Jesus knew their hearts ached at the loss of their brother, and His love and compassion for their grief showed through His own tears.
Jesus mourns with you as well when loss comes. Our grief is not meant to be borne alone; Jesus wants you to lean on Him and lighten the burden of loss.
Yes, Jesus loved Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. But He loves you no less! And He loves the person you mourn.
Jesus promises Martha that those who believe in Him will rise again.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)
This promise is not only for some, but for all who believe. So, the only question remaining for us to answer is the same that He posed to Martha.
Do you believe this?
