We live in a give and take, ‘everybody deserves their fair share’ culture. However, this is not the experience followers of Christ should be looking for!
Christ gave all KNOWING we could never repay all that He gave. And we are called to live like Christ, are we not? So what does that mean about how we live out our faith?
We are to give and give and give and give - not looking for a payback or getting our ‘fair share’. One of my pet peeves is how often I hear people on commercials pitching ‘getting what you deserve’, or you should go here or buy this ‘because you deserve it’. I don’t want what I deserve… thanks be to God for not giving me what I deserve!
We already have been given so much more than our share. Eternity with Christ is ours – what more could we possibly be looking for?
Give - and don't consider what may or may not ever be returned. Give your blessings, give your time, give everything in the name of Jesus. He gave more than we will ever understand, on this side of eternity.
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death--
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:5-11)
