But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day.
I cannot be righteous but through the righteousness of Christ’s work on the Cross. Through Him and His work – not my own – I can become a sliver of light that slowly will grow into a bright and shining instrument that points to my risen Savior.
The key is for us to recognize that we are not righteous – as Paul says in Romans 3:10 - “There is no one righteous, not even one”. I can only project the righteousness of the One who covers me. By pointing to Christ, we become beacons to the lost – like a lighthouse on the shore, helping ships come into the dock.
On my own, I am nothing. I struggle through my own weaknesses to put on a façade as a ‘good person’; but true righteousness will never be within my grasp. I am a sinful, spiteful, selfish man with no hope for anything beyond this meager life.
Despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. (Romans 8:37)
Thanks be only to Christ for His grace and mercy, who can shine forth His dawning of righteousness, even through such an imperfect vessel as I am!
