We don’t know much about Lot’s wife, but this we do know. She was a witness to God’s great saving power and knew His instructions. Yet she couldn’t let go of the things behind - she ended up turning back, disobeying the God who saved her, and lost her life.
But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:26)
She did what we sometimes do – lost track of what her true “lot” in life was. You see, her “lot” was running right along beside her (literally named Lot). She was saved by angels, along with her husband and daughters, but she couldn’t realize that was enough. She thought her “lot” was wrapped up in a house and the material things of life.
Jesus said: “Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life will preserve it.” (Luke 17:32-33)
Be willing to let go of the things that hold you down and look forward to what God has in store for you! When we are on God’s path and following His will, we should not yearn for the past things He has already saved us from. Choose your “lot” wisely!
