You want a book with meaning? How about the book that has spawned more discussion, sold more copies, generated more controversy, and changed more lives than anything ever written in history?
You want a book with good stories? How about Adam and Eve, Noah and the Ark, Moses and the Exodus, Jonah and the Fish, David and Goliath, Samson and Delilah, Jesus and the Disciples, and of course Revelations (just to name a few)? There are no stories so well-known, so teachable – no stories that have been told more often in more ways to more people.
You want a book with a great hero or heroine? Where can you find greater heroes than in the bible? How about Samson, who tore a lion in half with his bare hands, and killed a thousand men with only the jawbone of a donkey? How about Esther, who stood up to the King and his right-hand man to save her people? Or David, who killed two hundred Philistines to prove he was worthy to marry King Saul’s daughter and single-handedly took out the Philistines warrior giant with nothing but a sling and a stone!
And for the grand finale, I give you none other than the ultimate Hero - the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Yes - Jesus Christ Himself - who, in the final battle for mankind, will return on a white stallion followed by all His Saints and destroy all His enemies with a single word from His mouth!
This is not just a great book, but a book written by the very Spirit of God. This is the Famous One! Even when God is simply being introduced by one of His humble prophets, it’s like you’re hearing the best introduction ever made.
Can you imagine if you were hearing the introduction of a great boxer or MMA fighter, and heard something like this?
“And now ladies and gentlemen, in the blue corner, weighing in at 225 lbs…
He made the Pleiades and Orion;
He turns the shadow of death into morning
And makes the day dark as night;
He calls for the waters of the sea
And pours them out on the face of the earth;
The Lord is his name!” (Amos 5:8)
If you’re the guy in the other corner, you’re probably trying to figure out how to quietly slip away without being noticed…and that is just the beginning…
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook,
Or snare his tongue with a line which you lower?
Can you put a reed through his nose,
Or pierce his jaw with a hook?” (Job 41:1-2)
I mean seriously, you just can’t compete with that…
NOTE TO SELF: Never try to ‘one-up’ God
If you need a Hero that will be there for you no matter what – if you are looking for a Hero that you can rely on in all situations:
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Amen!
“The Lord is his name!”
