Judgement is coming for all of us... we shouldn’t be surprised when it comes. Peter goes on in this chapter to say that we (believers in Christ) may have harsh judgement, but it will be nothing compared to what non-believers will suffer.
If the righteous are barely saved,
what will happen to godless sinners? (Proverbs 11:31)
We are only saved through the sacrifice and spilled blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We make it into eternal life – not by the skin of our teeth, but rather by the skin of His back...
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
He took severe punishment, to reconcile us with the Father. Those of us that accept this gift sneak into paradise through the work of Another. Those who reject this gift have completely avoidable and unimaginable suffering waiting.
