For the Lord is righteous,
He loves righteousness;
His countenance beholds the upright
And in psalm 14:3 (also written by David) we read:
They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one
So, if the Lord accepts the righteous but none of us do right, how can any of us hope to see God? The Apostle Paul gives us the answer:
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:22)
That’s how it’s done! Look – any one of us who is being honest will admit that we are not ever going to be ‘holy’ or ‘righteous’ based on our own actions. If you think otherwise, I’m sorry to say you are delusional. You and I cannot help but sin – we were born that way. In fact, the same David that wrote the above also wrote about this:
For I was born a sinner--
yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. (Psalm 51:5)
What I’m saying is this: to think that we are sinless is folly. Only one without sin can be considered righteous in the eyes of a perfect and Holy God. Therefore, we are in a helpless state unless our sin can be removed. The good news is that Jesus Christ has done everything necessary to take our sins. Because of Him, even though we were born that way, if we accept His Gift of salvation we don't have to die that way.
And Paul also tells us the result of accepting what Jesus does for us.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
