You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. (James 2:19)
Believe, follow, listen… is that all there is to it? Yes and no. Believing isn’t enough – it must be a belief filled with love and faith in the One we believe. Faith strong enough to let us put away our fleshly desires and focus on Him.
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)
We must follow Him, even when it means picking up our cross. The cross to those in the First century was a device of torture and death. We must be willing to put ourselves even in death’s way if necessary to do His work, with the faith that our debt has been paid by Another.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
We must listen to His words. We are blessed in that we are given the Holy Bible that tells us all about God and ourselves. We are further blessed that Christ is our Intercessor – He has torn away the veil that separates us from the Father. We can come in boldness with our prayers, and when we do, we must open our hearts and not just spew a litany of requests, but be ready to listen and submit to the Spirit.
A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” (Luke 9:35)
