He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
Contrary to popular belief, beauty is not in the eye of the beholder, but in the eye of the Creator!
The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7b)
You may have noticed - the world’s standard for beauty is different than God’s in that it is based all on temporary external beauty, instead of lasting internal beauty. What we are talking about here is mere outward appearance versus a beautiful soul…
Outward beauty says nothing about inward beauty. There are many examples of ‘beautiful people’ with unattractive actions and words... and I’ve seen people that I would not initially think are particularly beautiful become absolutely beautiful as I get to know their heart. I’m guessing most of us have experienced this...
Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot - all were externally beautiful in their heyday, but who remembers them now? The same years that wreak havoc on external beauty can simultaneously be enhancing inner beauty, if someone is in Christ. Knowing His Peace and soaking ourselves in His Word will change a person from the inside, making them a beautiful creation.
It seems likely to me that in the afterlife we will see our brothers and sisters displaying their inward beauty in outward form - and it will be spectacular!
