You may have had some traumatic event that occurred that you are reminded of, or lost a loved one and this is your first Christmas without them, or a hundred other things that might cause you to have sadness or feel down.
I am not going to claim to ‘know how you feel’ – we are all different and can’t really know what’s going on inside another’s head. However, I can point you to the One who does know how you feel, because He made you.
The “Sons of Korah” were second only to King David in writing Psalms. They wrote many of them at a time when they were depressed and saddened by the events that took place around them. The Jews were taken into captivity, and had lost their homes and the land God gave to them.
This happened due to the people’s disobedience, and these men were writing songs that pleaded and begged for God’s favor to return to them, and for them to be brought back to their Promised Land.
If anyone had a reason to be depressed, these men did! So what do they have to say to us?
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God. (Psalm 42:5)
They seek God – praise the Lord when you are down; seek Him when you are depressed. Put your hope in God, and you will find hope all around you.
You may be depressed, disturbed, or down today… but just keep reaching out to your Savior and remember the Hope that He brings!
