I love these verses from the ‘Beloved Apostle’. Those of us who have accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior are children of God. Can you fathom how amazing this Gift is, that we can actually be called ‘children of God’?
However, even though we already have this incredible title as God’s children, there is yet more…and isn’t there always more with God? John goes on to say that when He (Jesus) is revealed, we will 'see Him as He is'.
I think this means that we will see Him as God – the very Son of God – in all His power and glory. This makes sense to me, because when Jesus returns, it also says that ‘every knee will bow and every tongue confess’ that Jesus is Lord. When we see our Savior finally revealed as the God and King that He truly is, we will have no other option.
But there is still more (this is one reason why I know I will never get bored in Heaven – there will always be more! No matter how long we spend there; no matter what unbelievable and beautiful things we see and experience; there will always be more)!
John also says that when our King is revealed, and we see Him fully, that ‘we shall be like Him’!
While I cannot even begin to fathom what this really and fully means, it does seem to say that as children of God - when we see the Son of God revealed - we will become eternal, holy, and worshipful right alongside our Lord. And all I can say to that is…. WOW!
So, with these incredible promises, that are too amazing for us to even really grasp, it makes sense that John would then admonish us to purify ourselves. For what Bride can have such a promise as this waiting for them, and not try to do everything in their power to prepare for their soon-to-be-revealed Groom?
