As it is with the good,
so with the sinful;
as it is with those who take oaths,
so with those who are afraid to take them. (Ecclesiastes 9:2)
Good and bad things happen to good and bad people alike. Pain or joy, death or life – can happen to any of us. It’s our reaction that separates the righteous from the condemned. When pain comes do we go into a fetal position and mourn, or do we cry out to God for healing? When death’s claws wrap around our loved ones do we give up hope, or trust that God is good and remember the blessings that remain?
It’s so hard to remember that God is good when we are in the middle of things that feel very bad. But, what we see in this life is only a small part of the picture. Pain of death here can mean beginning eternity… Sadness and heartache here are reminders that there is a place and time in our future where these things will not exist. God really is good all the time! We just don’t always see it…
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (Romans 8:18)
