When Jesus was baptized, He was immediately sent into the desert:
At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan (Mark 1:12:13a)
Jesus endured 40 days of hunger, thirst, and temptation – all without sin. And there is more…
They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. (Mark 14:32-33)
Finally, the Son of Man underwent 24 hours of emotional and physical injustice and brutality that we cannot fathom – all without sin.
Not only did He make it through His trial of 20 years, 40 days, and 24 hours without sin, but He went even further – so very much further - when He spoke on that cross:
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34a)
You see, these years, days, and hours all led to One death for our forgiveness.
