There are only two times in the New Testament where a stone was rolled away from a tomb to let a previously dead man walk out alive – the two men were Lazarus and Jesus.
Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” (John 11:39)
Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.” (John 11:43-44)
Lazarus had died four days prior, and Jesus came and showed everyone there that even death cannot stop the love of God.
And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. (Matthew 28:2)
Jesus was raised on the third day, and not only showed that death can be defeated, but carried the very keys of death away with Him!
Jesus wants to do the same for you! So take off the graveclothes and be cleansed from the stench of death, just as Lazarus was – your second chance at life is waiting for you. That is why He came!
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
NOTE: There is no one named Lazarus in the Rolling Stones…
