I’ve written before about people choosing their own destiny – whether with God or without. Joshua tells the people of Israel something similar to this here – you see, we all ultimately must choose. You even have to choose not to make a choice (if you don’t believe me, listen to the song “Freewill” by Rush)!
The world wants you to choose self. They say “Do whatever feels right to you” and “Be your own person”. They use this as a distraction, turning your eyes inside to your selfish nature, while the shackles are clamped around your feet that will be used to drag you straight into the pit of hell.
There are only two types of people in this world. Those that follow God and those that do not. There is no in between. Jesus made it really clear what He thinks of those who ‘sit on the fence’ – wavering between two opinions.
Because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:16)
Let’s face it – the whole point of God’s gift of freewill is that He will not force you to serve Him. But do not fool yourself – you can serve God, or serve the world – there is no other option!
But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15b)
