What ‘third day’ is being referred to here? This is in Galilee, three days after John the Baptist proclaims the “Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world” and sees the Spirit come down to rest on Jesus.
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)
After all of this happens, Jesus and His disciples are invited to a wedding feast. Of course, on this side of history, we know there will be another, greater, wedding feast where perhaps – just perhaps, the water of our cleansing will be turned into the wine of our feasting.
On another (and most famous) third day – Jesus rose from the grave. On this third day, water was turned into wine. Our Savior was the “Living Water” that turned into the “Cup of our Salvation”. It took just three days for Jesus’ earthly body become fulfilled into the once and final offering.
On this earth, the Living Water took three days to become the Cup of Salvation. In our future home, the Cup or our Salvation will again and forever be our Living Water.
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord. (Psalm 116:13)
