…says the teenager, who gets into the air-conditioned car from a school filled with peer pressure to be driven to the nice home he lives in. His married and loving parents provide for him, but he is always bored as he chooses between Social Media, YouTube, Xbox, or Switch. He has never missed a meal, and the man wants to tell him…
“…you don’t know what it’s like…”
….says the man, who grew up in a small rural community, with parents that split when he was just a kid. He worked on farms as a teenager to have some extra spending money. His parents weren’t around much, but there was heat in the winter and window fans in the summer. He never missed a meal, and the lady wants to tell him…
“…you don’t know what it’s like…”
….says the woman, who grew up in a poor country, with frail older parents. She slept on the floor of a one-room shack with her parents and siblings, and the scars on her legs remind her of time spent climbing trees and clamoring through muddy waters to try and find food to bring home. Their little home had no electricity or running water, and she remembers many days when the only meal was a handful of rice wrapped in a banana leaf. She missed many meals, but grew up to have a better life, and the new mother wants to tell her…
“…you don’t know what it’s like…”
….says the new mother, who scratches out her days in the scorched and arid land. She was barely strong enough to make it to full-term with her newborn, and nearly died during delivery - her weakness due to a lifetime of malnutrition. After her greatest blessing was delivered, she holds him tightly and loves him more than she could imagine. She watches the sun rise and fall without any food again. She gently rocks her child as she sees his emaciated frame painfully draw breath. She has no tears left to cry as she realizes she gave birth to her child just to watch him die from starvation, and she wants to scream, but can only produce a rasp whisper…
“…you don’t know what it’s like.”
Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world. (James 1:27)
It is estimated that 4 children die of hunger every minute. There are many good organizations that you can donate to if you want to make a difference in the life of a child. If all who are able would help just one child, we could save thousands. Here are a few organizations that can help:
