But I believe this completely misses the point...
Jesus taught people are not to be trusted, are evil, and ‘stiff-necked’ (my personal favorite). He even called the religious leaders "…whitewashed tombs... Filled with dead people's bones and all sorts of impurity". (Matt 23:27)
Jesus even plainly said that not all those who say they follow Him truly know Him in Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
If we are twisting His teachings, are we doing the will of the Father? Of course not!
So when those who claim to follow Him don't actually follow His teachings - or if they twist His words - this does not invalidate His Truth, but on the contrary, proves He was right about us.
Let me ask you this, by way of example:
If a mother tells her toddler not to touch the flame or he'll get burned; then if he does touch it and gets burned, does he prove his mother was right or not? He does, of course!
And yet despite His knowledge of us, and our penchant for exchanging His Truth for a lie; Jesus commissioned us broken, twisted people to tell other broken, twisted people about Him.
If we are obedient and faithful, His Spirit will lead us in Truth, so we can represent Him here on this earth to others. If we are not obedient and faithful, it does not change the Truth, but it does change our standing in relation to His Truth.
Father God, please help us to be obedient followers and teachers of your Word through what we say to others, and through our actions. May we, your servants, make your church here on earth into your beautiful Bride.
