As the Apostle John states here with words that were given him by the Spirit, it is the will of God that all be saved. However, our God knows all that has happened, and all the will happen – He is already aware of who will and who will not choose His Son.
Remember this: God is not the ‘mean Father’ that wants to throw people into the abyss. No! He is the loving Father who calls to us: loving, forgiving, with His offer of grace. But, He ultimately lets us make (and live with) our own decision.
Here is an earthly example: I am a father and my will is that all of my children follow Christ, and grow closer to Him than even I am now. However, when it’s all said and done, they have to choose to follow Him of their own free will. I don't stop loving them, but I cannot make this decision for them - and as much as I wish I could - I cannot save them.
Look – you and I do not know who will and will not choose to accept Christ. So for us, to be in God’s will means to speak of and raise up Christ to everyone! When we show people through words and actions that He is good, and that His love is real and true, we are in His will.
You and I are in God’s will when we accept His Son, and show others His love. Know God's will for your life - it's actually not that hard!
