This was absolutely a ‘bucket list’ item, and it was certainly a dream come true for us. What I would not call it is a vacation. This was a return to the “Mothership” of a sort – it was truly a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
There is something magical about Israel:
- Imagine a country smaller than the state of New Jersey, surrounded on all sides by about 20 countries who believe it should not exist.
- Imagine a country that is recreated as a direct answer to an ancient prophecy
- Imagine a place and a people that have been at the very center of most of history’s greatest events
- Imagine a place where the three main religions of the earth co-exist and have holy sites co-mingled
As a follower of Jesus Christ, there is no way to describe how enriching and heartfelt it is to visit sites like Bethlehem, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, and of course Jerusalem. I have no doubt that God hears me wherever I am on this small rock in the center of His universe. But I also have no doubt that I heard Him more clearly than ever on our Pilgrimage to His chosen land.
This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: People from nations and cities around the world will travel to Jerusalem. The people of one city will say to the people of another, ‘Come with us to Jerusalem to ask the Lord to bless us. Let’s worship the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. I’m determined to go.’ Many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord of Heaven’s Armies and to ask for his blessing. (Zechariah 8:20-22)
