Am I ever shamelessly persistent? I believe that if I was at the ER with a loved one in trouble and they were not receiving attention, I would be shamelessly persistent until the one I loved received the attention and treatment needed.
Jesus is telling us that persistence is a good thing with God. Before we have a relationship with the King of everything, getting down on our hands and knees and begging for intervention would be something we might have considered a shameful act. But there is no shame in recognizing He is in control, because we also know that He is good.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:9-10)
When you seek something out, it doesn’t mean that the result will be immediate. There must be a show of determination and faith – the value of what we seek determines how long and hard we will continue. We may sometimes receive an answer immediately, when other times it takes a struggle.
And what Jesus offers is of the very highest value:
“How much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13)
